Ideas for new projects
Posted November 20, 2009.
So once I've made my way through the IMDb Top 100, I want to continue this project and move it into other lists of films to watch. I've had a few ideas, including:
-
Best Picture winners (or, more ambitiously, nominees), chronologically if possible;
-
Picking some of my favourite filmmakers and actors and making my way through their careers from beginning to end;
-
Picking a country famous for its cinema (Japan, Italy, Germany and France in particular) and randomly picking some highly-regarded films; and
-
Picking a country barely known at all for its cinema and seeing what I can find (North Korea would be fascinating but possibly too hard to source films).
Any ideas?

I think the advantage of your current top 100 approach is you're moving between different genres / directors / eras etc.
When I was in Edmonton, I tivo'd a crap load of movies and filled the hard drive pretty quickly. I noticed I had a lot of Mafia-related movies, so I watched about 5 to 10 Mafia movies in a row (Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, Carlito's Way, etc). In the end they all just blurred together – I wish I had have spaced them out.
At least the Best Picture option would mix it up a little.

Yeah that's good thinking actually. But then all the other possible lists I've thought of should be pretty diverse as well, at least as far as genre. Like I may get sick of seeing Jennifer Connolly's face (unlikely) or hearing people talk German (very likely), but I probably won't get bored either way.
